Gambar
WildForm, the developers of WildFx and Flix (now owned by On2), recently unveiled WildPresenter 2.0 - a rapid Flash Presentation software . Here's our exclusive review of WildPresenter . Unlike competing Flash development products like Swish or Xtivity, WildPresenter is more than just a Flash Presentation tool. WildPresenter is a feature-intensive suite of useful products packed in one neat timeline-driven interface. WildPresenter has tools for: 1. For Screencasting WildPresenter has a powerful screen capture feature that lets you record screen actions with voice-overs (narrations) and mouse movements. The screen actions can be exported as a series of image files (frames) which can later be imported into Adobe Illustrator for advanced editing. 2. For capturing Audio or Video from external devices WildPresenter can directly capture audio-video data from Webcams, Video Capture Cards (TV Tuners), HandyCams, DVCam or a simple Microphone. eyePilot: Colors for the color blind

Gambar
eyePilot Color Guide is an interactive software for computer-savvy people who are color-blind or suffer from any form of color-deficiency. With eyePilot, Colorblind people will get a better view of color-dependent web sites, documents, graphics and computer applications. The program works by placing an interactive floating window (Capture Window) like a layer over any web or browser window on your computer screen. EyePilot lets users pinpoint particular shades on a screen or shift hues to bring out easier-to-detect contrasts. Move the PC's cursor over an item, and eyePilot reports what the color is. If the user clicks on a color name, all instances of it on the page will flash. Or one color can be made to stand out by converting the rest of a page to gray and white. eyePilot tools are even useful if you analyze lot data represented with color like historic stock prices, weather maps, geographic terrains or other financial data. The naked truth about Work-At-Home crowd

Gambar
People who work at home are more likely to be naked . A "revealing" survey shows that some 10% of Out-of-Office workers wear nothing at all while working at home. While about 39% of respondents of both sexes said they wear sweats while working from home, 12% of males and 7% of females wear nothing at all . About cleanliness, 44% of women said they showered on work-at-home days, as opposed to men, who were slightly more likely to shave than wash. Besides that they enjoy food, music, watching TV and even some have admitted to sneaking in an afternoon nap. Read SonicWALL survey: Nude Workers: Clothing Low When Working From Home

Firefox Fans force Symantec to change stand

Gambar
Symantec has accepted that it made an unfair comparison of IE and Firefox. An Internet Security Threat Report issed by Symanted stated that Firefox had more vulnerabilities than IE. The report considered only vendor-confirmed bugs and so the IE figure was far too low. Angry Firefox fans resorted to a letter writing campaign and sent hundreds of emails to Symantec. The pressure was so huge that Symantec accepted the mistake . "How we did it before wasn't a fair comparison," said Oliver Friedrichs, the senior manager of Symantec's security response group. " It wasn't an apples to apples comparison ." The latest Symantect Threat report has two categories, vendor-confirmed and a combination of vendor and non-vendor-confirmed flaws. No wonder, IE wins one category and Firefox the other. Symantec Internet Security Threat Report Download IE vs Firefox Symantec Report Sources: DeveloperPipeline | Yahoo!

War on Terror: Pentagon talking to Bloggers

Gambar
Like Wal-mart, US Defense is inviting Bloggers to write 'good stories' about US operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. The US Defense Department has created a team to interact with bloggers and their postings regarding US millitary actions. The Pentagon "Engage" team interacts with bloggers to try to present an accurate picture of the U.S global war on terror. Bloggers are also invited to visit Central Command's Web site for news releases, data and images. In one instance, a blogger was writing about the opening of a water treatment plant in Iraq. The Pentagon blogger team contacted writer and offered information via the CENTCOM website, and more information was added to the blog to make the article more accurate. In another blog contact, the team wrote a blogger who stated that the U.S. military routinely used children in Iraq and Afghanistan as human shields during their operations by using candy to entice and lure kids near them. Earlier, Pentagon launched “O...

Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer to ship after Vista

Gambar
Microsoft halts furthur development of Photoshop, Illustrator killer . Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer (or Acrylic ) is seen as the first serious attempt by Microsoft to dethrone Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Macromedia Fireworks. But before the Graphic Designer could win hearts of design professionals, Microsoft has applied brakes on further development. In an interview with ZDNet Australia, Wayne Smith explained that Microsoft was taking so long to bring Graphic Designer to market because the company had put "a lot" of the development work for the application "on pause", until sibling products and Vista could be finalised. The Expression range is built on WinFX model that will be introduced with Windows Vista. Microsoft will therefore wait wait for WinFX to ship in its final release, and then to do a couple of months of stabilisation work. Some call Microsoft Expression Graphic Designer a blend of Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop as it allows c...

ShortText: Write it, Post it and Forget it

Gambar
Kawaljit Bedi of NDTV, whom I met at BarCampDelhi, tells me about ShortText - a new Text sharing service developed by his brother. The site has already made it to the Digg frontpage and delicious popular websites. What would you do if you have to send a big chunk to text to someone - either you'll email it or upload the file to a webserver or copy-paste the text in a IM chat conversation. Here's a better alternative - use ShortText.com. Write the text in ShortText and publish. You get a permanent URL to the text which you either email, share in a chat room or just bookmark for later reference. ShortText also allows visitors to post comments in you post (with requiring to sign-in) which can be subscribed using RSS. ShortText doesn't support HTML yet though any URL text is automatically converted into a live hyperlink. Language support is also limited. ( Text in 24 languages , ShortText Page ) Similar services like pastebin , ChangeToLink , PasteHere.com , NoPaste and n...

Google Toolbar vs MSN Search Toolbar

Gambar
Google Toolbar for IE has been my favorite IE add-on until I put my hands on the new Windows Live Toolbar with Onfolio . After working with both toolbars for a couple of days, I decided to uninstall the Google Toolbar in favor of Windows Live Toolbar. And I am not missing any of the Google stuff. Microsoft has made a real smart move with Windows Live. Here are some of the reasons that Windows Live Toolbar is better than Google Toolbar: Google Websearch - I love Google websearch. Live toolbar lets you choose a search engine of your choice (see graphic) For Google: http://www.google.com/search?q=$w For Yahoo: http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=$w Tab Browser - Live Toolbar adds Firefox like Tabbed Browsing in IE. Integrated RSS reader - The Feed Discovery button in Live Toolbar is highlighted when a webpage has Feeds and provides one click subscription. No more searching that Orange Icon on webpages. Hightlight Viewer - The Live Toolbar High...

Orkut Crimes: Brazil summons Google

Gambar
Who do you know - Brazil is now asking this question to Google. Orkut has become a popular place where people on the wrong side of the law often connect. Now Brazil have asked Google to remove illegal material from Orkut and report users that post it. Brazil will even seek warrants to seize information on hundreds of users on the Orkut. Google has promised to cooperate and has already removed "hundreds" of pages from Orkut service that had been denounced. Related: Who uploaded Flight Attendant, Upside Down Sources: Reuters | CNet

How Google can help FBI catch al-Qaeda fans

Gambar
These disturbing screenshots of a popular community website tell the entire story. Fans of Jihad, Osama Bin Laden and al-Qeada have been active on Orkut - a service now owned by Google. CIA, FBI and other secret services have a good opportunity here to track downpeople who have great sympathies for the most wanted man , his organization or his 'holy war - jehad'. Here's how. First a Google Account is required to use orkut. Most users tend to reveal lot of their personal information like contact details, phone numbers while completing their profiles. (may not work for people living inside Tora-Bora caves) Second, when someone visits Orkut, Google servers automatically record the person's IP address which can reveal his exact physical location using a geo-location reference table . Hope, Google won't have problems in sharing this kind of data with secruity agencies. Related: Using Google to curb piracy

Windows Live Desktop: Microsoft Outlook Express 7.0

Gambar
Microsoft Outlook Express, the poor cousin of Microsoft Office Outlook, has been long due for a revamp. Microsoft released OE 6.0 in 2001 and the product has remained static since then. Meanwhile, Mozilla released several iterations of Thunderbird and did grab some marketshare. But there is some good news for Outlook Express fans now. Related: Microsoft Onfolio: RSS Reader and Research Tool Microsoft is developing an Outlook Express replacement that will also be integrated into Windows Live. Outlook Express 7.0 will have a new UI, emoticon and inline spell checking, and automatic syncing with Hotmail contacts. Sorry OpenOffice! Google Web Office has Writely

Gambar
Om was right . Get ready for an Ad-Supported document writer. Google has purchased Writely , an online Word Processor. The only challenge is to convince users that the Google Writely documents stored on G:Drive are safe from Feds. At the moment, while still available to existing users, Writely has been closed to new signups as it moves over to the Google server infrastructure. While Google is actively engaged in grabbing share of MS Office (Redmond's cash cow), Microsoft in turn has been investing heavily to improve its search technology, hoping to lure traffic away from Google. Google Office vs Microsoft Office Microsoft Office Standard 2007, priced at $399, includes Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook. Google Office 2006 needs a spreadsheet and a presentation program for completing it's office suite. So who will Google acquire next ? WiFi Lover Cups: Distant LoveBirds Drinking Together

Gambar
Lover's Cups explore the idea of sharing feelings of drinking between two people in different places by using cups as communication interfaces of drinking. Distance is not a problem as liquid sensors and wireless links have been built in to the glasses. When either person picks up a glass, red light-emitting diodes glow on their partner's glass. When one puts a glass to their lips, the other glass glows brightly. The technology could also be used to check that hospital patients or elderly people are drinking enough water. The glasses, dubbed lover's cups, will be unveiled at the CHI 2006 conference on computer-human interaction in Montreal in April. No Fingerprint: Use any picture as Password

Gambar
Are the days of typing passwords numbered? A Japanese group have proposed an authentication system that uses a pair of digital images instead of alphanumeric passwords. The system that uses one clear and easily recognizable image and another that is a highly pixilated, unclear version of the original (see the graphic above). When creating a new password or changing an old one, the system provides the legitimate user with the clear image. But during the authentication phase, the system shows the user the unclear image, along with a number of decoy images. To the user who holds the clear version, the unclear image is easy to pick out. But to an impersonator, finding the correct image becomes difficult. For added security, the computer may display a group of photos that does not contain the pass-image. In that case, the user can answer "no pass-image." Masakatsu Nishigaki is professor of informatics at Shizuoka University in Japan. Related: Security hole in Microsoft Fingerp...

What is Microsoft Live Clipboard ?

Gambar
Microsoft Live Clipboard will give users much more control as they copy data from Web sites, or paste data into Web forms, or from the Web into their applications. This "cut and paste" technology works by copying data, structured using XML, from the Web to the clipboard, and then from the clipboard to the target, which can be another Web page or a desktop application. Live Clipboard is based on JavaScript and standard data formats widely used by Web developers. Microsoft also plans to freely license the software under the Creative Commons license. Ozzie demonstrated several uses for proposed universal Web Clipboard. He copied addresses and appointments from Web pages, and automatically added them to Microsoft Outlook and the Microsoft Live calendar service on the Web. Ozzie then navigated to Flickr and quickly copied a whole group of photos from the Web site to a folder on his local hard disk. Visit Ray Ozzie Website Video Demo of Microsoft Live Clipboard

Mental Typewriter: A Brain-Computer Interface

Gambar
A mental typewriter that translates thoughts into cursor movements on a computer screen is available for display at CeBIT. This is also the first device that enables a direct dialogue between humans and computers. Even if a person who is completely paralysed cannot move his eyes left or right he can still think with the left and right parts of his brain. These thoughts or signals would be enough to activate the device. Electrodes connected to the scalp measure the brain’s electrical signals. These are amplified and transmitted to the computer, which converts them into technical control signals. The associated changes in brain activity can be detected by the BCI and used to choose between two alternatives. This principle can also be used to control devices connected to a computer, and it is even feasible to communicate in this way via the Internet. Performancing Metrics: New Blog Analytics Tool

Gambar
The developers of Performancing Firefox Blog Editor are building a web analytics package for bloggers, they claim to be something different, something better [than Google Measure Map ?]. Read my initial observations. Nick Wilson recently wrote that Performancing.com will soon release the first public beta of Performancing Metrics - a web analytics package designed for bloggers. Darren adds that Metrics is "Very Good" and can partially track AdSense performance. The Metrics Alpha testing site alpha.performancing.com requires a password but these javscript files ( stats.js , wp.js , cookies.js , basicstats.js , drupal.js ) on metrics.performancing.com server gives an early insight into the blog stats service. Here are some of my observations on Performancing Metrics: 1. Metrics will be available as seperate tracking code for different platforms like Wordpress and Drupal. 2. Metrics Adsense Tracking mechanism is similar to the existing Adsense Click Tracking scripts . ...

Microsoft Origami MiniTablet fails to meet hype

Gambar
Origami Tablet doesn't match the 1-pound tablet prototype with all-day battery life and a cost of $800. Initially, only Mr Scoble was disappointed because Microsoft didn't tell him enough about Origami. But now, when more Origami details have trickled out, the entire blogosphere look disappointed with the over-hyped Gizmo. The Samsung Q1 Origami Ultra Mobile PC unveiled at Cebit is basically a handheld computer with a 7-inch display that falls somewhere between a tablet PC and a PDA and runs a special edition of Windows XP. Some say that Origami is too big to replace a PDA, but likely not powerful enough to replace a notebook. Origami devices are expected to do most of the tasks that a low-end PC is capable of--things like playing music and movies, editing documents, viewing e-mail and surfing the Internet. Most Origami models are expected to include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth wireless capabilities, though some may also have pricier add-ons, such as GPS navigation tools or c...

Google related: is an advanced search operator for finding websites similar to the specified webpage. For instance, the query related:labnol.blogspot.com on Google will list web pages that are similar to the Digital Inspiration home page. I ran a few related: queries on Google and though the results were appropriate, the Google "Similar Pages" algorithms still need a little bit of tweaking. There is another good website recommendation service called EasyUtil but they only provide an web service API so it's out of bounds for most of us. Thomas Hawk informed me of a new search engine called Similicio.us that allows you to type in a URL and receive suggestions of similar domains based on del.icio.us tags/bookmarks. Great idea. People generally bookmark sites with good niche content on del.icio.us. Therefore, results of similicio.us are more relevant and useful. Thomas adds that since Similicio.us uses Del.icio.us tags in order to find similar sites, it excludes a lo...

Google can acquire Writely Word Processor

Gambar
Om Malik writes that Google is rumored to be in talks with Writely , a web browser based Word processor, for a possible acqusition. I think Writely fits just right in the Google Plan. Google Calendar and Google G: Drive are nearing release, an online word processor would be a nice addition to the Google Productivity office suite. Write documents with Writely and store them in G:drive. Writely is also the best AJAX based word processor around. You can save documents as PDF in Writely, a feature that Microsoft is making available for the first time in Microsoft Office 2007 . So it suits Google even more.

Microsoft Windows Live is the future of MSN search

Gambar
Microsoft wins by a big margin when it comes to creating user interfaces. The Redmond guys proved that again with Windows Live Search. The interface (UI) of Windows Live is simple like Google yet more elegant and more intutive. I am especially liking the Image results page - image thumbnails are neatly laid out and show a slightly bigger version of the image with details when you move the mouse over. You can even control the size of thumbnails to display more results on one page. Excellent stuff. I tried to search for some adult images and Windows Live showed the following smart message: This query has triggered our safe search filter. Flexible settings are coming soon. However, it did accept the same adult queries for Web search. Also, the idea to provide a "search within this site" button with each result is innovative and useful. The feeds results feature should not be confused with Blog search - Live Feeds search displays only links to RSS feeds and if mu...

Latest Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Cracked

New workaround prevents Microsoft AntiPiracy check When you access Microsoft Download Center or on the Microsoft Windows Update Web site, you are prompted to install an WGA ActiveX control (Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool) that performs a validation check to verify that your copy of Windows is genuine. Microsoft recently updated the WindowsUpdate website that seems to break the previous WGA workaround scripts . However, hackers have comeup with another solution - A new WGA Workaround User Script floating around called Windows Genuine Advantage Patcher (1.5.512.0) claims to circumvent validation checks for Microsoft Windows Updates and Microsoft Download Center. The WGA byepass script works in four steps: 1. Download the latest Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool ( KB892130 ) from from Windows Update. Download and Install Now after you click Express or Custom. Reboot if prompted. 2. Disable the WGA Add-On 3. Dowload the validation patch for LegitCheckControl.DLL ver. 1...

Microsoft Onfolio is a recommended MSN Toolbar add-in

Gambar
Microsoft Onfolio (Web Research Assistant) is an extremely powerful IE add-in for Windows Live Toolbar (toolbar.live.com) - Onfolio offers Blogging, RSS news reader, Screen Capture, Note taking, Offline Web browser, Website Capturing and data sharing capabilities. Onfolio was founded by J.J. Allaire who previously founded Allaire Corp. that was acquired by Macromedia. Onfolio has been offered to users of both Microsoft Explorer and Mozilla Firefox, although the Microsoft version of Onfolio is not offered for Firefox. Understandable - but why do they have a WGA plugin for Firefox ? Microsoft Onfolio (earlier $99) looks inspired by some of the best Firefox extensions like Scrapbook , Sage, BlogThis, ScreenGrab , Httrack (Spiderzilla) and DownloadThemAll. If you spend a good portion of your day doing research on the Web, it's hard to ignore Onfolio. Microsoft Onfolio add-in integrates an RSS news reader, lets you save bookmarks, capture local copies of web pages, documents, images ...
